American Success at St. Andrews

After some recent disappointing results for American golf, recent events at St Andrews may just have helped lift spirits in the US.

The PGA Championship won recently by Keegan Bradley, followed by Lexi Thomson’s stunning victory on the LPGA have been highlights in a very poor period for American golf.

These wonderful performances have however been overshadowed by Oliver Horovitz performance earlier this week on The Old Course, St Andrews.

Every year the new Captain of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club drives in ceremonially down the 1st hole at eight o’clock in the morning accompanied by the firing of a canon. The caddies line up below Granny Clarks Wynd and whoever catches the ball walks to the tee and receives a gold sovereign from the new Captain.

The honour this year fell to Oliver who caught the ball full toss “without a glove”. Oliver is from New York and has been a caddie on The Links for a few years while continuing his film making aspirations back home over the winter. Well done Oliver. This will also mean he Caddies for Alistair Low, the new Captain, when he plays on The Old next year.

This may just be the start of better times for American Golf!!!!
